Walter E. Ph. Beyer studeerde van 1975 t/m 1981 humane geneeskunde aan de universiteit van Bonn en promoveerde aldaar in 1983. In 1982 trad hij in dienst van de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, afdeling Virologie, tevens Nationaal Influenza Centrum (toenmalig hoofd: professor Nic Masurel) en voltooide de specialisatie Medische Microbiologie in 1986. Walter is (co-)auteur van zo’n honderd wetenschappelijke artikelen, vooral over influenza epidemiologie en vaccinologie. De laatste jaren onderzoekt hij de factoren die de effectiviteit van influenzavaccins beïnvloeden. Meest recente publicaties:
